Its often said that the startups are successful, especially by the venture capitalist firms who fund these startups. It is hard to say, what is intention behind the claim of saying most of the startups as successful, because as far as we could find on the internet there is not a single place which contains the facts and the figures about the success and the failure of the new ventures.
And if so that the people were successful, who were they from were did they start, were their background as modest, or where they some geeks like Einstein or from the Wharton business school?
Is there is a place where we can find who these people where and what was special in idea which made them successful? All that are stated at time are bug names like Sabeer Bhatia, and Steve Jobs. But definitely all cant be them, and that's for sure.
In short is there any study available which can confirm or prove that taking a risk is not foolishness, but its a calculated path that could take you to success.

The CBI, Industrial Society and other quangos provide studies - many start ups are said to fail within the first two years and then others in the next three years -
Having met many people recently who wish to sell me their franchises, businesses and having seen people who have 'failed' and having sold my own franchise back again I believe that there are more failures around than is admitted.
All these so called 'failures' are a mine of information and would make a great study - we learn from our mistakes - I have learnt a lot from my failed venture - I know now how to make it a real winner and as I retire from full time work Oct 2009 I may well look at starting up again. Anyone interested ? just send me an e-mail.
If you believe it is a winner - stick with it - read around the free sites like this - see business link - try amnd find a mentor (I didn't at thye time I needed one - would most probably still be in business) - track markets as they change.
Best of Luck

Yeah I agree.
I am not sure what the failure rate is. Im sure I have researched that information before so I think it is available but I know that most failures happen within the first 2 years as Engineer said.
