Jo,
As you are in IT why not consider reselling web hosting? You will find more
details in the offers section of this site:
reseller hosting
Whatever you decide on doing - DO IT, dont wait around for the right time, there is never a right time.
Once you get going ensure you grasp the nettle and keep fighting; expect a hard uphill climb and when things get easier, as they will, you can enjoy the fruits of your labours.
GOOD luck

Jo,
You would first need to start your own business, I will not go into the tax/NI issues, or
sole-trader/limited company as these are covered in other parts of this site.
When you are trading/or about to start trading you can buy a reseller account:
http://www.seiretto.com/web_hosting/reseller_hosting.php
If you are a web designer then design your own site ready to add to the reseller account,
usually reseller accounts are owned by web designers as they then are able to host the
sites they design and profit from the hosting renewals each year. However, we do have
resellers who are not designers and work with other designers to contract them to create
the new websites for your new clients. In this case you would add your margin to the
designers costs so that you still profit from both the design and the hosting of the new
website. A summary of the possible profits is shown here:
http://www.seiretto.com/web_hosting/reseller_hosting_benefits.php
You can also make a good margin on domain name sales. We allow you to buy domains
from us and we manage the domain for you, but if you are able to manage domains yourself (changing
nameservers, etc.) then you can use any registrar of your choice, for more details on
buying domains see: http://www.seiretto.com/Support/buying_domains/
I am sure this reply will spark further questions; just reply and I will answer with the
best of my knowledge...
