Hi again guys.
After my last post regarding Fantasy Football I have been thinking in much more simple terms for a business idea and believe I have found one.
Thing is I want to get this off and running within a few months, however, lack of cash for a website is proving to be a problem. I don't really want to go down the whole grant, loan way of things as I have had some bad experience being a student with money and debt!!
So my question is to all you web genius' out there, what sort of payment terms do you accept? Obviously you have your basic up front payment but can you also lay it out so you pay "X" amount a month? Or do you accept a percentage in a company for doing/updating the site?
Also the one fear I have is that I can give my idea to a web designer and he can quite easily go off his own way and start it up himself. Is there some form of confidentiality agreement you can get signed?
On that matter should any of you web designers want to e-mail me what you can offer and how that would be great. In short I am looking for a site that is fairly simple, needs to be clean cut, modern, easy to use and must have a decent search facility. I also need this website to show up in numerous seacrh engines.

HI Joe,
If you put a business plan together then you could approach Business Link or The Princes Trust ( if you are under 25 ) They can also help you with your business plan and they offer grants for new businesses and can also guide you in a number of other things. You dont pay back their grants so there is no "debt" so to speak.
Get your web designer to sign an NDA - Non Disclosure agreement http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/layer?topicId=1074415494
Some design agencies might offer you credit. For example we can let our clients pay in up to 4 times if the total cost is over a certain amount. But not everyone will want to work like that.
Hope it helps

If the above fail and you have developed a great business plan, you can ask your bank to go through the goverments loan guarente scheme, your business advisor at the bank should then help you to develop your business plan further so that you can be accepted.

Take a service skill you have from a personal experiance and offer it to people who dont know how to do it.
Ie lawyers who know about law and we dont.
Lumberjacks who know how to cut wood can cut wood for next to nothing and sell it for more.
You got a skill that someone else hasnt got - use it
Requires no finance if its the skill in your head.

It sounds like you are only after a few hundred pounds here, so rather than mucking about with loans and grants I would suggest your time would be far better spent simply working in some grotty jobs in the evening and weekends for a few weeks to get yourself the small amount of cash you need. This should be enough to get a small project rolling rather than relying on favours and freebies which is generally going to end up with you getting a poor result.
