Childcare and nursery businesses come top of the list for female business buyers looking to start up, according to a recent study.
The study, by Businessesforsale.com, reveals that there is high demand in the child care industry among budding female entrepreneurs who are first-time buyers or have previous experience and are looking to cash in on a growing sector.
Hair and beauty salons, cafes, diners, hotels and guesthouses were other sectors favored by female entrepreneurs.
Marcus Markou, chairman at Businessesforsale.com, said: “Women want a business that is both challenging and rewarding and this type of business provides them with just that.
“For many, the child care sector also provides them with the opportunity to work from home and as a result have more quality time to spend with their own families.
"The best route to business success is identifying gap in the market and what better way than through personal experience. Women who have experienced 1st hand the problems of getting childcare are more likely to identify how they can build a successful business."
Self-employed women are becoming more and more widespread, closing the gap between their male counterparts.
The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor for January reveals that for every 100 male entrepreneurs there were 46 women who started their own business in 2004, compared with 43 in the previous year.
