So a Korean student pays you £3 for a 20 minute conversation, you take 5% (£0.15) and the english student gets the rest (£2.85)?
Let's say the site development costs for the site are £2500, to recoup that would take 16,666 calls.
If you set up 10 calls a day, it is going to take you four and a half years to raise that much money, and thats just the dev costs, you have hosting costs, admin costs, Online marketing and SEO costs, offline marketing costs.
Then you've got to find english students who are willing to devote twenty minutes of their time for half the price of a packet of cigarettes.
The idea is good, but the numbers don't work.

well. im not saying the numbers do work but just to change things round a bit and see if it helps. i will design the site and my brother will program everything, so the website will cost the price of a domain name. and when i was a student £5 an hour was pretty good money and im sure £9 an hour would be pretty good money still especially as it should be pretty easy work. the problem is for people to know they can work an hour or two block that needs a lot of students and for students to know they are going to be able to fit it in when it suits them there will have to be a lot of people at both ends, which means high advertising costs! and the time diffrence is an obvious problem it will require students in england to get up before lunch!
there are similar companies do teach english over skype involving more money and adults but i like this idea coz the younger generation can talk to someone who will interest them!
if anyone has more suggestions please let me know. im not sure where to go with this. rob.

well, it sounds like a pretty good idea but it cost too much to sucess in reality.
i don't think there are a lot of students would like to talk and practice their engish over skype or somethings else. anyway, if you insist on your program than i suggest you have better make sure you do some research before hand
1. do some reseach on your potential customers.
how many potential customers ?
how much will they pay for such conversation?
what do they think of your idea?
2. if the results of the research come out good enough for you. then you should go on working the cost of establishing necessary facilities. how much will that cost and the time to earn it back. i don't think you can suceed in your new business if it costs too much to launch and too long to make money back.
3. if you think you project is workable then it is time to think about marketing and looking for suitable employees.
to be frank, not so many people would like to pay can chat over the net on codition that so many students are well aware of skype, icq and msn. they could pay nothing and start conversation with native speaker then why should they pay you???????
