Sandwich chain Benjys has appointed a dedicated team to track down new franchisees as part of the company's expansion.

Benjys has taken on nine new development agents (DAs) who will identify new growth opportunities and recruit new franchisees as the high street sandwich shop looks to expand its retail operations across the UK.

The DAs come from backgrounds in other chain stores, such as Subway, Pizza Express and Sainsburys and will also be entrusted with supporting Benjys' current 148 franchisees and ensuring that company standards are maintained through training and support programmes.

"The appointment of these development agents will allow the brand to gain a national presence extremely quickly and meet ambitious expansion targets," said Ian Rickwood, Benjys CEO.

"We are bringing in some of the best people from the leisure and retail industries and intend to fill all available positions by the end of the year."

In return for their services, the DAs will receive a third of new franchisees' initial franchising fee and a 5% commission on purchases of Benjys products.

Benjys is run by Rickwood and his wife Emma, who have past experience as both franchisors and franchisees with PepsiCo, KFC and Subway.

They currently employ over 650 people.
