Hi all,
I'm running a new employment agency and our ad will be going in the yellow pages for the first time in August.
However, I was wondering if any of you could share your experience as to what size seems to generate the best response.
I've been offered a quarter of a column for £288 for the year (as its a new business). Should I go for this or would a smaller ad be just as good?
Cheers
Betty

A single line ad works just as well and it is free! Yellow pages is no longer the preferred method of locating business given the internet usage and some free press coverage in your local paper will generate as much as a smallish ad.
What is your new company called and where will it be? Are you targeting a specialist occupational area or general services?
Good luck with your venture!

Hi
We advertised in the yellow pages for the first time in January this year. We were offered a semi classified ad for half price for the first year. We took two ads, one for web-design and one for telecoms.
So far we have more than paid for the telecoms ad and it's only April!
The best advice I would give would be to look in your local yellow pages and judge from the competition as to what's best to advertise. We went for 0870, 0845 & 0800 numbers ad amongst telephone systems ads and it worked. They do have a seperate section for this but we chose to advertise in a more searched for service such as phone systems.
We will be renewing next year!
You have to remember that with the yellow pages people still use it years later... newspapers are binned after a matter of days yet yellow pages hang around for years!
Hope that helps...

My first ad came out in the Yellow Pages in March, it has generated far more work for me than any intenet advertising. I have only taken a small 3cm by 1 column advertisement, but it has certainly paid off.
In fact since the Yellow Pages came out with my ad in I have phased out all other avertising, as with that and the word of mouth referrals I am getting I just don't need to spend any more.
Jamie is right though, check your competitiors adverts as you will need to stand out.

I did some research on yellow pages for a major insurance company last year. The size of the ad is key - too big & you look too flashy, too small & may you lose jo public's confidence in you as a "reputable" company. Most consumers do not realise that you have to PAY to be in the YP!! So the advice is ... go for something affordable & BOXED - but not too big!

My LOCAL paper charge £300 for a small ad about 5 pages in and thats per week.
So if your putting it in the yellow pages which is regional. And its going to be there for a year! You can work the math out as how much you could save!
Also I like the colour ads.
