A new competition is aiming to encourage young entrepreneurs to put their business ideas into practice.
The Big Leap Competition is looking for young, dynamic people with fresh, innovative, high-growth business ideas, who are ready to ‘take the leap to turn their idea into reality’.
The competition is looking for ideas in the information technology, new media, creative industries, environmental solutions, and product innovation and manufacturing sectors, and will select two finalists per sector in the North and the South, to be entered for the grand prize.
One winner will receive a £500 award, after business plans are judged in September 2008. An additional winner in each category will be chosen to take part in an investment readiness workshop to help them pitch to a panel of potential investors during Enterprise Week in November 2008.
The contest will be run by business coaching company Striding Out, with a focus on interactive learning, coaching, and peer group support.
Heather Wilkinson, the managing director of Striding Out, said the competition will focus on supporting and harnessing entrepreneurial talent within the designated market sectors, addressing present and future consumer trends.
“We expect the competition to attract ground-breaking and innovative ideas that can benefit from receiving this type of support.
“Encouraging entrepreneurial ideas, especially among young people, is very important. We need to help people with big ideas who are prepared to make them happen,” she added.
“This benefits not only the local economy and community, but also contributes towards the competitiveness of the UK in a globalised world.”
