Businesses that want a slice of the action from the forthcoming Olympic Games are being encouraged to register on the official London 2012 website.

The Games’ organisers are keen to reassure companies they have ‘not missed the boat’ on the multitude of business opportunities that the Olympics will provide

A new business section has been added to the London 2012 website to keep firms up to date on tendering opportunities, contacts and important news about the Games.

The organisers say that they want local businesses to benefit from the ‘once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’ that the Games represents and say there will be opportunities for companies of all sizes.

Paul Deighton, chief executive of the London 2012 organising committee, said: “The 2012 Games are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“We will need a huge range of goods and services from businesses of all sizes, right across the UK.

“I want to see as many businesses as possible benefit from being involved in the Games."

David Higgins, chief executive of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), said: "The vast majority have yet to be tendered as the construction work begins in earnest in 2008.

“The ODA Procurement Policy we published last month made clear how businesses can get in shape for the opportunities ahead and this initiative is an important way for businesses to receive information as we move forward.”
