Hi, i have just sold my motor vehicle recovery business and am wanting to start a small courier business, im ok starting the company up i.e. vans, insurance, books. But am unsure on where to find and look for my work. It was easy doing vehicle break down as if 'the customers' car had broken down they had to phone me!! and the facted that all the local garages have known me for years so used me straight away.
Is it a good idea to sign up to some couriers websites that provide to with work or just go in alone as apossed to working under big haulage companies ie. dhl, parceforce
Thankyou
paul

Hi Paul
If you seriously want to be in courier work then may I suggest that you contact, the likes of DHL, PARCELNET, PARCELINE, ANC and TNT. As they do use private couriers all the time, and their rates are quite good. If you wish to go it alone, it is a lot harder as these big 5 companies can under cut you no problems. Having use to work for parceline they always had private couriers in. DHL, TNT and Parcelnet frequently advertise for home couriers.
Hope this is of some help.

Hi Paul,
You could also devise a lesser price strategy and hook up with SMEs as they're always looking to cut costs on these services. Courier service is something everybody uses and you could target the local market for a better presence. Once you establish yourself as a reliable service provider I'm sure word will get around and people will use your services more.
