Hi,
I'm a student going to university next year. I'm curious as to how one would find jobs at startups (probably unpaid), for short periods of time (i.e. one or two months), and decided to ask at the source.
I am interested in this because I fancy myself as an entrepreneur at some point in the future, and working for free at a startup seems like a great way to gain some experience that might help me later on.
How do you think I could find/get such jobs? What would you as a small business owner suggest I do?
Thanks.
Note: this post is not a request for jobs (although if you want to give me one, I won't object), but a request for information, and so I hope it won't get deleted as an advertisement.

What is your locality? I resume you are asking a small business owner to 'show you the ropes'? In which case, you would probably need to commute!
Have you got any business paths in mind?

Right now I'm located in London but I'd be located in Cambridge during the work time, one or the other.
I'm actually not entirely certain as to what I want to do ... I'm a fairly advanced computer scientist, having taught myself a lot of that independently, but I wouldn't be interested in doing it for work.
I guess initially just generic officework, but in a startup setting, so that I could hopefully shadow people around and learn a little bit about what it takes to get a small business going (or learn exactly what not to do, either way).
I'm especially interested in companies with a few people like 10 or so, which have reached a sort of critical mass but aren't large yet... Do you know where I could find a list of such companies? Right now I'm thinking the best way to try and get in is just to go and shake hands and ask for what I think is a mutually beneficial exchange of labor versus experience.
