broadband Telephony or IP Telephony enables a more flexible service and can dismiss the need for a second line. Outgoing calls are much less than BT or than using a mobile for travellers.
It's quite simple -
1. find a provider,
2. install a "soft client" (a software program that emulates a phone) or use a handset.
3. start making / recieving calls at you desk or on the move.
I would recommend using a broadband connection although a good quality can suffice in *some* cases (broadband should really be the baseline).
Cost savings.
There are a number of ways telephony costs can be reduced by using IP telephony:-
1. cheaper outgoing calls. Especially the case for international.
2. calls between multiple sites are FREE
3. calls from travellers or home workers back to the office are FREE
4. line rental (rental per IP telephony account) is cheaper than regular telephone line rental.
5. Advanced features such as 4 digit dialling, voice messages to email, etc increase productivity and save time.
