I am planning to move to Greece (Athens) to start up a coffee bar business. I am a marketing professional at present and want to get out of the rat race and work for myself. My wife is greek with family over there. I will have approx £100k capital and lots of enthusiasm and family support but very little knowledge of the coffee bar business or of where to get help and advice with regards to starting a business in a foreign country. Tax, legal, health and safety etc etc is complex enough in this country, but where do I start in Greece?? All advice and help greatly appreciated.

Hiya Chris, I am experienced in hotel and catering but I am moving in opposite directions. I am going to Dublin and starting up a coffee shop restaurant there. I do hope it works out for you in Greece. I'm sorry that I can't give you any advice but I'm sure somebody can.
Regards,
Gav.

Best of luck!! I recently started a coffee shop business in Shrewsbury and though some aspects may be different there are some considerations.
cost- expect to pay £2-6,000 for a coffee machine, plus cups etc ( these are expensive) Contact the greek embassey. On a recent business trip to peru the American embassey had a huge list of businesses wanting to do business with peru. maybe the greek embassey has the same facility and could prove handy for catering supplier contacts.legal and insurance details may also be available.
