How many of you out there have ran into trouble with property matters - leases, legal issues, tax queries, service sharges etc. and have you ever bought a book / guide to help clarify such matters and if so which book has provided the best information.
Also... how many of you would consider buying a concise guide to the main areas that you should be aware of, research etc. when renting or buying property or purchasing a business where property is involved?

I have recently signed a 6 year lease on a property and hadn't budgeted for Stamp Duty.
I had presumed Stamp Duty was only applicable on a purchase of a property - but oh no!
Cost me £419 I hadn't budgeted for.
I hadn't read a specific book on leases but would have loved to have some concise information regarding the matter. And I thought I was beig so thorough....

Did you seek advice rom any professionals on the matter - solicitor and / or surveyor or did you do the whole thing yourself?

My solicitor handled the whole thing and he informed me - so I knew it was legal.
Just a pain in the back-side really.
