]Hi,
I would like some advice from any pub or wine bar owners, I am thinking of opening a bar in London preferably with room to let above. the average takings for some places i have seen are approx 4K a week. I would like to know the effort it takes to running a pub. Ideally i want to run it for 3 months and then hire a bar manager to run the place as i will go back to my previous IT job. will this be profitable for me or is more dedication required and for me to give up my IT Job.
regards
Raxo[

This is a big question and no one can give you an easy answer.
You are looking at a huge undertaking as you are looking to set one up from scatch (this needs real knowledge to know what equipment/ is required and if the market is there for your business) and also you haven't the industry background.
If you are serious then get some serious advice from those who know about the pub trade. There are courses run by the licencing trade and you can get the qualifications so that you are not reliant on staff. You should have the licence in your name because managers come and go.
The key to any business start up is a good location but you need to balance this with the cost of overheads, rent and rates. You should seek professional business advice to work out your personal break-even position and work back from that as to what turnover you need to make some money.
Good luck

4k doesn't sound like a lot, My mother is a manager in a local pub in Cardiff and they do close to 10k a week and that is just a local out of town pub.
