I think the key to any sucessful business you are thinking of starting is to do something you really want to do....because at the end of the day if you don't enjoy it and its not something your that bothered about your not going to want to put 100% effort in to make it work.
So really this isn't something anyone can answer but yourself.

Hi there.
Good on you for starting your own business.
Do you like children and could you handle working with them. There are numerous business possibilities. EG: second hand childrens clothing and equipment store (one in my home town that is very succesful and well respected), childrens toy library, if you enjoy arts and crafts you could create your own line of childrens gifts, gifts for new mothers (gift baskets, momento boxes for keepsakes). The list goes on.
If you like to cook there are a number of choices there also. Maybe start a small (but quality) cafe in partnership with a friend or relative. Or else homebaking is always a good way to go. Many people now days are so busy and have no time to cook.
You need to decide where your passions lie and imagine your self doing something everyday and whether it would make you happy.
Once you have made your decision approach your bank and see if they have anything to help new businesses in regards to finance. Or else look on the net and find somewhere in your area that specialise in giving start-ups a hand up. Often this includes help in writing a business plan, mentoring programs, help with finance, legalities and everything else involved in starting a business.
All the best of luck with your decision and finding out what you want to do. Feel free to contact me if I can help.

Hi Angel
Starting small is defineately a good idea until you are comfortable with the whole business ownership process and you can build from there.
Your love of animals could easily be worked into any number of business ideas. You could start your own local mobile pet grooming business (even go a step further and make it a business that visits peoples homes).
If you can sew maybe create a cute line of dog outfits and accessories (people do do this, believe me),
Karaoke is a good idea also. The last few weddings I have been to have had karaoke as the main entertainment and it was hugely successful.
I hope these ideas help in some way.

Why just karaoke? I used to run a very successful mobile disco business that had at least two events almost every weekend. Unfortunately I had to sell my business on as I decided to go to university but long to go back to something similar.
We were successful as there was a gap in our local market that we filled, so if there's the same where you live, why not?..
The minimum it would cost for equipment is roughly £1500 so it doesn't take a lot to get started.
Feel free to drop me an email if you would like any advice on this as I love the subject.
Kind regards,
