Hi, I'm new to this forum.
I want to set up a new business in the lifestyle sector, and in order to devise my business plan I need to some obtain market information.
Where can I obtain market information - preferrably for free [8D]?
Can the Business Link or any business libraries help?
I'd appreciate any advise.
Regards
Jules

Hi Jules,
Are you based in London - if so, you could try the City of London business library or the British Library....I'm not sure if they're free, though!
Hope that's helpful - regards, Caroline

Try also the national statistics office web site for demographic information per region, it's free and a start to more detailed research.http://www.statistics.gov.uk.
You will need to be quite specific on what you want to know about and what information you are looking for, so if you are seeking the number of households with under 30s in the £45K or more income bracket then you need to go into the data search on household breakdown and the most up to date data is 2001 which was collected formally.
Its really useful if you need to know economic breakdown geographically too, and I would favour learning how to do your own research through a book in the library and the notes on the above site rather than relying on a business link advisor's slant on what is happening. If you are needing funding the ability to do and justify your own research methods is much more likely to impress.
Best of luck with your business and don't forget us when you are ready to start trading and need some legal help.

I cant say Ive seen a report on lifestyle management specifically but you may be able to find bits and pieces from various reports. I think Mintel produce a Domestic Help report and their reports are available at most libraries including the City Business library. It may be an idea to give Mintel a call so you can identify all the reports of interest, that way you can see whether it is worth your while going to a library in the first place.
You could try a few searches on newspaper sites like the Guardian and Independent using different keywords. Im sure there are some PR companies out there that have carried out surveys on this sector on behalf of clients some of which may have been picked up by the press.
