Garage/car repair business start up advice

Hi all,

I am about to bite the bullet and go self employed as a mechanic in Lancashire. Can anyone give me any advice on starting up, premises etc...

I own an MOT garage also in Lancs and started up almost a year ago. The best advice I could give is to try and get MOT testing if possible. There is loads of second hand equipment around so is cheaper than you might think. Just be careful with premises as the ministry are quite strict on the layout and size of premises etc.. one other word of caution is to check with planning before signing up for a lease. Since starting I have employed an apprentice and one full time mechanic. If you can get the right spot there is loads of work out there.
