Hi all
I am sure you have heard similar before…
I have recently created a textile/craft product… something which I could see being sold on the shelves of retailers such as Next, John Lewis and even gift shops.
The challenge I have is that I am not quite sure what steps to take now and lack in business skills within such an areas. I do feel that I should patent it before I progress any further… would this be right?
What would the best way for an inventor to profit from inventions? – would it be to licence/ sell the patent or manufacture for the retailers.
Apologies for my naivety but this is all new to me. I just no that I am
excited about my creation and want to make it work… any advice on creating success in this area would be gratefully received

Marj,
Not sure if this advice is correct but here is what I would do:-
When you say invented something, now is it the material or the item? there is a big difference.
If it is the material get a patent straight away, if it is the item then this may be more difficult, as descriptions can vary, lets say it is a 100% cotton flower basket, you would need to do a search on designs in plastics, metals etc.. to prove your idea is unique.
The best way to profit from inventions is dependeant on the invention, the 2 most famous are cats eyes or dysons? so it depends on your wish?
I would seek professional help, it may cost up front but the benefits will be there in the end.
Cheers
Martin
