For no other reason than curiosity I'd be interested to know what job titles, if any, sole traders are using and why! I've never associated one in the past but had a card from someone, who I knew worked for themselves, who had credited themselves with a Chief Executive title. It prompted me to flick through a few other cards I've got and a few had put themselves down as MD's etc.
To a degree I find it a bit pretentious, so thought I'd see what others thought/used. I've searched the internet and the general feedback on some articles was that Director was acceptable, but even that to me is a bit odd, classifying yourself as a Director of an unlimited company.
Any feedback would be welcomed - just interested in views on a topic I'd never considered before.

Very interesting question!
I've seen 'Founder' used but agree it would be nice to have a formal title to use as Director is really associated with limited companies.
Anyone else got any ideas?

This advice is probably worth the paper it's printed on, but...
Don't bother with titles unless you work in a big corporation. Even then it's not wholly necessary. People are usually quite savvy about who they're dealing with, what their relative negotiating powers and authorities are, etc. Your initial contact with them should leave them in no doubt anyway. Formal introductions may seem old-fashioned, but you should make a point of ensuring they happen. After that there's no need to reiterate who or what you are.
Giving yourself a big title when you are the CEO, but also the person who makes the tea and buys the loo-rolls, is usually seen through. I run a small company, and make no pretentions to my clients that it wasn't me who bought the biscuits in Tescos when we have tea. However - they do know that I make the decisions. So what title is on my business card? None! It's just not necessary.
