RE: Google Adwords

Mark,
It depends whether I was browsing or looking for a specific item. If I was browsing I may put in:
Mobile, accessories, buy, (model of my phone)
I may also include the word cheap if I were looking for a bargain.
If I were looking for something specific I would search in the same way as the above post.
I would ask your mates to try and find some phone accesories using google and for them to write down what they put in the search box. I think that will be more accurate than just thinking about it.
Also when you do get up and running, analyse your web statistics to see who is searching for your site through what key words (if this is possible with your host) and how long they stayed.
Often people will click on your site then click straight off as it is not what they are looking for, these clicks will not bring you revenue and will waste your advertising budget if they come from PPC.
You may also want to look try to find competitors shops and see what key words they are optimised to. You can also see what key words they regard as important by looking at the source of their html in the key words meta tag (although this is becoming less and less important nowaday.)
Hope this helps and I apologise if I have told you some of what you already know,
Matt D

Hi Matt,
Do not even entertain PPC without doing ALL your research, you can burn through £500 in a matter of hours. Plust make sure you have web stats to review progress, ideally you want stats on every page for "click path analysis" as well as referrer tracking. Otherwise you could spend a bucket of money, and have no idea what worked and what did'nt.
OK with stats ready to track all the fun, it is a simple stage by stage process.
1) Write down all the keywords you can think of, like the pervious posts suggested, names of the accessoreis, model numbers, makes etc etc. "hand free carkit", "nokiaXYZ", as advised abover, check other sites like yours, see what keywords they are using.
2) Go to www.overture.com and use thier search term suggestion tool for UK searches. This is the only "decent" tool of its kind around. And will give you all the tallies for searches for the previous month. Just put your keywords in the box and hit go, all seaches of that term and variations of will spring up, and you will definatley find terms you had never even though of. Plus these terms are tangible, people HAVE and ARE searching for them. This tool is a must have and a hidden secret of many webmasters.
3) Get the results for each and every keyword you can think of, once done you want a minimum of 100 relevent keywords. Print them off and with a highlighter pick all that are relevent to your goods and services. Remember you want at least 100 relevent search terms.
4) Input these into a database and then into ascending order and even break them down into sections if there are lots of them, for example; under 100 searchs, 100-250 searchs, 250-500 searches and so on. Obviously the higher the number of searches the more you will pay to be on that keyword. For example "online casino" is somewhere around $30-40 per click. Yes you read that right.
5) With that done, you can now start the fun bit. Find out what the going rate is on the keywords you want. If google dont offer this, then be wary, if you dont know exactly what you are paying or it is just a maximium bid, then you are being screwed. If this is the case, use Overture the original PPC partnered with Yahoo and lots more. You can probably guess I use Overture and find that to be much easier to get to grips with and in simple terms, I dont like Google. In years of Internet Business, I find google to be predominantly full of S##T. Anyways choice is yours.
6) Once you have the bid amounts for each of your chosen keywords, you can budget and more importantly choose what to bid on. Spread bidding is the key, rather than bid on say 10 keywords at £1 each, bid on 100 keyowrds at 10p each. Quite often the lower ranking keywords like 50 searches a month and so on convert better too as they are more specific and are always cheaper. Although many net noobs are now catching onto this strategy and lower keywords are rising in value.
If you follow these steps you wont go far wrong. Good Luck
