Get a free domain name and email address to suit your business name at www.naasei.net. Most businesses won't deal with you if you are using a hotmail account to run your business.

Thanks for the offer Larry. But we do have full domain name and email, the hotmail address is used purely as a filter - all further contact is from official company email addresses or direct conversation over telephone.

You could always use an antispam software to filter your mails, or filter non-recognised email to a separate folder.
Though you are trying to filter your mails, hotmail does not portray a good image.
I also see no signature in your posting. Surely if you are running a business you would want exposure. Where can I find information about your business. Do you have a web presence ?

You are quite right again.
The service we offer is to provide lists of specified contacts that can be targeted for direct marketing, with either telesales/telemarketing or with email.
Most of the information we provide is obtainable from Companies House and other agencies, or even from sitting there and finding the contacts yourself. However, these methods are expensive or time consuming.
Because the information we supply can be misused - it can indirectly make us unpopular. Hence the lower profile than we normally seek in other markets. We prefer to seperate ourselves from ruthless companies that bombard every email address they get with requests to buy viagra, etc and instead seek to deal with companies or individuals that have genuine business deals for targeted professionals (such as Purchasing Directors, Marketing Managers, etc).
When we receive an email requesting more information we take steps to see how the database will be used. If it meets our approval we explain who we are and the step by step process of how we proceed. We realise the importance and value of our product and aim to see that it is used wisely and not abused.
It is because of the irresponsible behaviour of other companies in this field that we use a filter. Once we see that the information we provide is to be used responsibly we reveal our company details so that any necessary checks on our status can be made.
I know that it seems an odd way to go about business, and yes, there are times we make less money because of it. But it does protect us from irrate would-be-spammers that have been refused our business and feel they have a grudge to settle (speaking from bitter experience)

Larry has a point though. The trust issue works both ways.
If a client asked me to recommend a list broker, firstly I would try to dissuade them, but if they insisted I would probably send them to a firm with a proper presence, such as Mardev, rather than someone I didn't know with a Hotmail address.

I entirely agree with you, and with what Larry said earlier. As soon as we have made initial contact and determine that the client is someone we wish to work with, we are happy to provide full company details.
All we can hope is that once you've used our service you will be satisfied enough to recommend us. The hotmail address is a filter that we use when talking on forums, it is not our primary contact point. This measure was only taken after we were bombarded with thousands of emails and had our server attacked after refusing to deal with a potential client that wished to use to the service to transmit obscene material. Quite expensive to protect constantly against such attacks, so rather than raise prices we use a hotmail filter until we know more about the potential client.

I have to agree with Larry and Robin and most peole will shy away and be very wary of businesses using Hotmail accounts.
If you are worried about the possible SPAM implications why not register another domain name which you could use solely for filtering emails. You could use the other domain name's email address to give a professional image and use this to filter your emails and redirect any email sent to this account on to the Hotmail account.
Once you have established contact you can then give formal business contact information.
I have to say the very small cost of doing this (approx £15 per year with Compila - http://www.compila.com) I am sure will be recouped back in a very short space of time.
