Hi
I am considering starting up a business on ebay, and am looking for some accounting software. I used to do my accounts using excel spreadsheets, but that just takes to long. So an looking for something that would perhaps intergrate with ebay to automate all of my sales etc. I do know it is possible but i don't know anyone that does it.
Or if there is any ebay sellers on here, would you be able to reccommend anything please?i.e what you find most effective.
Thanks in advance.....
Chris

Hi Chris
You can use PayPal as a means to receive payments through EBay ( http://pages.ebay.com/paypal/seller/ ) . This is a very safe and secure method both for buyers and sellers.
If you are looking for a quick and easy way to produce invoices, I invite you to try out Invoiceplace - http://www.invoiceplace.com
You can create invoices in minutes, calculate tax, invoice totals etc and print as a Word or PDF document.
Regards,
Scott

If it’s taking too long I would suggest its probably a question of what you are recording. Accounting software will possibly increase not decrease the amount of data entry time vs excel depending on how you set it all up.
I had a client the other day who came to me with over 50,000 transactions on their accounting software in one year. They had recorded every single sale rather than using a "day book" to post groups of entries. I had large businesses (Million£ + t/o) record less than that and this entity wasn’t even VAT registered. Complete waste of the clients time for 18 months but they simply hadn’t taken any advice about what they where doing and why.
You can export transactions from paypal direct into Quick Books and some other software but its often quite fiddly to get it set up, but worth the perseverance in some cases. It really depends what information you need (eg live stock figures in your accounting software?) what is worthwhile doing and what isn’t.
Would suggest you speak to your accounting in the first instance to discuss ( a) why the records take so long and (b) what options there are.

Sage seems to be the accounting standard, but is written for accountants by accoutants and can be a handfull for the rest of us in the human race!
QuickBooks is probably easier to work with but may not be totally acceptable to your accountant in that you may have to print out everything and then incorporate the changes they make at the end of the financial year into the electronic version yourself - that's a bit of a pain - personal experience. I now use Sage and a book keeper , more cost, less hassle!
Neither of these options is great at producing invoices, stock control, quotations, purchase orders and all the other stuff you need to run a business system successfully. I have used QuoteWerks for many years and this integrates well with contact management systems such as GoldMine, ACT! and even OutLook so can a great asset to your business.
Let me know if you want any advice.

Hi Roy,
I wanted to chip in some more information to what you had mentioned. Regarding the integration of accounting applications with contact managers, there are software tools that can help eliminate manual data entry of contact details from Contact managers like ACT, GoldMine, Outlook to Accounting applications like QuickBooks, Peachtree, etc.
All you need to do is highlight the contact information and click the software tool the contact information gets added to your database instantly and accurately.

With QB most accountants should have a copy of this, and its actually better than SAGE as you can keep working on your file while your accountant does the year end changes and you import them changes back into your live copy. There shouldn’t be any need to enter the changes manually unless your accountant is a bit of a technophobe.
I prefer QB over SAGE personally as its easier to explain the clients.

Interesting - the accountant I used to work for hated QB with a passion! It was Sage all the way with her.
I guess that says more about the accountant than the software...

Thanks Mansoor,
I'd forgotten about eGrabber. I work extensively with GoldMine and sometimes ACT!/OutLook too.
The issue of data integration always becomes a problem once a business grows and the number of transactions increases to unmanagable levels. I have often seen companies change softwares simply to overcome that and so compromise the efficiency of key sales and CRM functions by choosing a new product that has those disciplines as secondary functions in preference to accountantcy requirements. A really bad move in my view. If sales don't happen - you don't need an accountancy package!
I will review your product range again thanks.
BTW, is it just my PC or is this one of the most frustrating forum to write a post on?
