A £5m scheme to help young people develop programmes and initiatives that benefit their local communities was announced by telecoms firm O2 this week.

The Think Big campaign will give young people, aged between 13-25, cash hand-outs of £300 coupled with mentoring and training to help them with their projects and ventures.

Some of the training offered will include placements and mentorships with local and larger businesses or organisations and will revolve around skills such as project management, communications and networking.

Based on research by New Philanthropy Capital, O2 estimates that a community return of £3,300 can be generated from as little as £300.

If successfully awarded the grants, applicants will also have the chance to apply for further funding of up to £2,500 depending on the success of their ventures.
