Despite claiming to be motivated and content in their current positions, it appears that UK workers are always on the look out for the next opportunity.
A survey, commissioned by recruitment specialists Adecco, has questioned 1,000 employees from a range of industry sectors to gauge the relationship between levels of job satisfaction and proactive job-hunting in the UK workforce.
The research suggests that the UK is a nation of ‘job flirts’. Although 82% of UK workers believe they will be in the same job in 12 months’ time, around 40% have applied for a job or registered with a recruitment agency while in their current position.
The emergence of the internet as the number one job-search tool has perpetuated this trend by making vacancies easily accessible and comparable, according to Adecco
"We are seeing a high number of UK workers taking an 'always on the look out' approach to job hunting, “ explained Steven Kirkpatrick, managing director of Adecco.
“The internet has created a new generation of 'career traders'. We are now seeing a more proactive approach, with job seekers scanning for the best deals.”
When hunting for the ‘best deal’, as many as 89% of workers believe that interesting or challenging work is the most important component of job satisfaction, with a friendly environment and regular pay rises following closely behind.
