I was just looking for information and would really appreciate any advice anybody has to give regarding starting a recruitment business from home.
I have worked in recruitment for 6 years, in Public Sector temporary recruitment, but now want to establish a new business working from home in dealing with permanent appointments in Sales. I have also gained the REC qualification.
I would be looking to start working from home and having a small amount of capital to start me off.
Does anyone have any advice of the best way to start and what pitfalls to avoid?

Hello Marcusg71
where do i start - this inst as easy as working for a firm!
you need to firstly negotiate with a job board to get CV's as you will no longer have the leads generated by a company brand. (Total Jobs is good for public sector although expensive at around £350 per month)
Next find a good accountant - James? In this forum could be a good start.
Next dont spend any money on advertising - optimise your website instead.
REC qualification isnt going to help - releationships are the key.
Start talking to old clients ASAP
is this a one man band? If so keep overheads to a minimum - cars and fancy lunches have to wait until your safe
But the plus side is - if you make money and your overheads should be low and you can enjoy a good living - though stressful
good luck

Damian
Thank you very much for your advice. Sorry you didn't have much to go on there, I will try and give you some more detail.
It will be based at home with just myself as the only employee, so your right overheads will be low to start with. I need to develop a professional website, within a tight budget, and to try the job boards.
You said that Total Jobs is excellent for the Public Sector, but I would like to get out of the Public Sector. I don't have the contacts to take with me, but I am realistic and realise that I need to hit the phone hard to get anything and to grow the business that way. I am trying to get into the Sales Recruitment arena as that is what I know and know of people working in that area.
Can anyone offer advice regarding the website and any other advice will be greatly appreciated.
Marcus

Hi
I am thinking of starting my own recruitment company in the care services ( care agency). I have worked in care for 2 1/2 years and understand everything that needs to be done by my staff. I am thinking of starting freelance to start with and then employing people this will keep costs low. The things I dont understand are what insurances I need, time sheets, recipts to give to company and what I should charge. I will be working from home. If anybody have any ideas of where I should start. (e.g) Step 1.....Step 2. Please get in contact I have started a website.. www.chrisaston.co.uk you can email me with info at info@chrisaston.co.uk or reply on here..
Thank you so much!

Hi, all the new recruiters!
You might find it useful to visit another web-site for advice - they are dedicated to Recruiters http://www.ukrecruiter.co.uk/forum/index.htm
Also, I understand what you mean about not wanting to carry on in public sector as you don't have the contacts to take with you - but why not requalify?? You have the experience in that sector - target a small sector within public sector or something like that? You have all the experience and there is a lot of competition within recruitment sector!
You will need a good plan for getting the 'word out' for your services - use every possible chance you have to advertise for free, get PR, even offer your services for free if it gets a good mention or a good case study. You might want to use some direct marketing, but select carefully what you want to do and what areas/sectors to target as you can spend too much on this. Some market research might be good, some telemarketing, mail and e-mailing, etc. If you want help with direct marketing -let us know - I run a telemarketing agency and we offer good rates for start-ups!

Dont forget that the right branding is important when setting up your new business. Getting your image right both online and offline is really important. Regarding this and your need for a professional website please take a look at my site. We have also designed a site for a recruitment company and can integrate a jobs display board and sign up facility into your site. This will allow you to send out notifications to registered users via email.
