Half of businesses are missing out on bottom line savings by not replacing tired and inefficient equipment, Theo Paphitis has claimed.
The TV dragon is working in partnership with the Carbon Trust to publicise its Big Business Refit campaign.
Research from the Carbon Trust found that using old equipment is costing businesses £3.3bn a year in wasted energy. However, 52% of companies say they don’t have the cash to upgrade to more energy efficient versions.
The Big Business Refit campaign is offering £100m to businesses in interest free loans to replace equipment. The scheme is running until March 2010 and, as well as the loans, businesses can also get advice on suitable replacements in special clinics running in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Belfast.
“The Big Business Refit calls on all UK businesses to scour their premises for old equipment, from air conditioning, to fridges, compressors to factory machinery,” said Paphitis.
“With interest-free funding available to replace equipment, leading to average energy savings of 15%, it’s a no brainer for businesses to join in.”
The unsecured, interest free loans can be used to replace equipment costing between £3,000 and £400,000 repayable over a period of up to four years.
