Hi
My partner and i have recently started up our own local advertising /community magazine. We have just started distributing our second edition and we are making a small profit at present. But no where near as much as we'd like as we currently dont have enough advertisers. Its a full colour glossy which is 16 pages A5 at the moment and we have it printed with a local printer (as he gave us the best price we have recieved to date) , we've had good feedback from some advertisers and readers so far on the look and content of the mag.
But basically we are looking for ways of getting more potential advertisers interested in advertising with us.
So if anyone has any tips etc on ways we could do this, then it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Gem and Frank,
Well you might have already tried this but how about running a special section for a certain type of business - off based, or shops or restaurants etc... Then play them off against eachother. State that most of their competitors have already signed up etc...
Why not try and push for some press coverage in your local newspapers by writing a press release and getting in touch with local journalists, tell them what you are doing and try to put some sort of spin on it to get people signed up.
I have a great idea for a flyer or leaflet on the subject if that would interest you, I will happily pass it onto you for free.
Also, if you want to email me over the spec of what you are printing I could see if we can give you a better price for the same quality. You never know and it could be another way of improving your profits !
