Hello everybody, I'm new here today.
I am in the process of setting up my own Wedding Day Co-ordination business.
Name, Logo, Stationery all sorted, but I don't know where to start with getting the business in. My budget is tiny and from research, I know that success in this industry is based mainly on word of mouth.
I am planning to offer my service free of charge to my first three clients. Other than that, I am unsure where to go for publicity, etc.
Can you advise?
Many thanks,
Diane

Hi,
I would look into getting some free publicity especially as you are offering a free service to your first 3 clients. Get in touch with you local newspapers, magazines, and radio stations.
As well as this do a search in Google for related websites and get in touch with webmasters, as they might be able to offer some free advertising for you.
Hope this helps and good luck in your new business.
Regards,
Admir

Personally I'm not sure you need to rate your idea as a wedding co-ordinator is now a tried and tested business!
I assume you already have lists of ideas/suppliers to start as soon as you get a booking. I would also try to negoigate discounts with suppliers in order to help with attracting business. "If you use petals flowers via me I can get you the grooms and best man's button holes free..." etc
I agree that you need to get to wedding fayres and publicity in the newspaper. Dont forget about an advert in a wedding mag and using wedding forums too.
You say you will offer 3 clients the service free of charge. I would do this in the form of a raffle (approved by the Local Authority with monies going to a local charity - £1 entry). People will enter becasue a) its for charity and b) its a pound worth risking for a good prize. But i would set a limit on the amount of hours you spend on each client otherwise you could spend all your time on them and not on winning new (paying) business.
The major plus with doing a raffle is of course, that you will have a ready list of people who are getting married. So you can write to the ones who didn't win saying "I'm sorry you didn't win the raffle.... please remember my service can provide you with x y z ....." and sweetly sell it to them anyway!
Lastly business networking - on the network I go to we have a lady who is a wedding/party co-oridnator. A lot of buinsess is done by word of mouth and meeting people expalining what you can do.
Good luck
Rachel

Congratulations Diane on the launch of your new business. As I'm getting married this year I know first hand how useful a service like wedding co-ordination is, but how you don't tend to think about it until you're a long way down the line buried up to your neck in caterers, venues, bands, cars...
It is important to go to wedding shows, to advertise and get some PR if you are able, but the long term view for your business would be to build yourself a decent web presence. As the majority of us these days use the internet and search engines like Google, Yahoo! and MSN to find things your main task is to draw as many people to your website as possible and convert a reasonable percentage into paying customers.
For this you'll need the help of a web savvy copywriter who can create text and advise on design and structure to create a search engine friendly environment without forgetting that once people get to your site they will need to be encouraged to contact and subsequently instruct you as their wedding co-ordinator.
If you need any advice or help you can see more on this at www.scribbles-writing-services.co.uk and feel free to email me.
