Some of the country’s top franchise businesses will soon learn if their company is Britain’s Franchisee of the Year.

Organised by the British Franchise Association (BFA) and sponsored by HSBC and Express newspapers, the Franchisee of the Year Awards

Among this year’s 10 national finalists are two husband and wife teams, a 63-year-old ex-military policewoman, a former paediatric nurse and a 27-year-old who started out as a pizza delivery boy, one of whom will win Franchisee of the Year 2006 and take home HSBC’s £5,000 Gold Winner’s cheque.

Silver and Bronze award-winning franchisees will receive cheques for £3,000 and £2,000, respectively.

Finalists for the awards, which will be given at a black-tie awards dinner in Birmingham on 5 October, are franchisees from Action International, Belvoir Property, Care @, Chemex, Chem-Dry, Domino’s Pizza, Jo Jingles, Pitman Training, Prontaprint and Riverford Organic.

“The franchise sector is home to some of the UK's most successful brands,” said Brian Smart, director general of the BFA. “These brands have been built on the fusion of a franchisor driven to build and support a network and franchisees who are committed to developing their own business.

“The awards recognise the very best franchisees and how their focus and drive, when supplemented by the support of a franchisor, grows sustainable, powerful businesses.”
