hi
I am new to this site!! I am setting up a relocation buisiness in the york area. I have been in the estate agency buisiness for three years and with 2 young children am sick of being tyed to office hours!! so have taken the plunge with a friend. We are hoping to be up and running by September if anyone has any tips for us or has set up a similar buisiness then i would love to hear from you. bit confused whether to become a limited company or not!!

Hi nikki,
I hope your new venture goes well and you find some help on here.
Re being a ltd company it might be worth doing a search on that topic in the forum as it has been discussed quite a lot on here.
There is no right answer, for a services business with little business risk, I personally would tend to look at being a sole trader/partnership for the first 6 months or so and then incorporate if things go well. That said a lot of people like to incorporate from day one.
If you have got a fairly good grip on what is involved on both sides I am quite happy to take a few minutes on the 'phone helping people decide what to do if need be.

Nikki do you work with councils and regeneration projects etc encouraging business to set up in York from outside the area?
As my business grows nationally (hopefully) I can have the office based anywhere in the country and would like to know which city or town offers the best fiinancial support.

Adam,
York is notoriously expensive, nearly as bad as London!
However, it is a fantastic town, and I know the council are working on some ideas to get new businesses into the area, however I have no details.
Leeds is also huge for offices and such, don't know what the council are like though.

No i am really looking at relocating families etc. I have contacted DEFRA as they may be relocating 250 jobs up here. There has been in the local press talk of companies using York as thier new base as it now has good trian links to London. My husband commutes twice a weeek to london and rarely gets delayed and takes 2 hours!!
if i get any info for you will let you know

2 hours? I takes me an hour to get from East London to West!
Good luck with the bus. It is about time govt. depts. relocated out of London, particularly DEFRA.
