It is not long now before Gordon Brown steps into Tony Blair's shoes, but how will he help new start ups. Can we expect him to provide more funding for business start up advice centre's, will he give new start ups more grants or will he forgot about the backbone of the UK and make it harder for new start ups to survive?

Gordon's last budget certainly wasn't small business friendly which doesn't bode well for his premiership. There was some good news from small business minister Margaret Hodge however last week who announced the government's confusing mass of 3000-plus support schemes are to be slashed to under-100. It's welcome news if it means better guidance for small firms but it's pretty shocking that ministers have let the business support regime get to the state it's in.
