Hi, I'm after advice on starting my own business. I will qualify as a chiropractor next year and am thinking of setting up straight away from home. The problem is i have no money and would like advice on the best way of trying to get some! I already have a website at www.chiropractorbrewster.co.uk and know there is a real demand for chiropractors but just need advice on getting started.

Hie Louise Brewster
It is a good idea to start your business after graduating ,I admire your attitude .The issue of money is a difficult depending on your approach and getting started is a gruelling one but you will enjoy the experience .I think you need to write a business plan for the business you want to start .In your business plan include all the details about cash projections in 2years ,3/4/5 years, size of the market & potential for growth ,the immediate needs for the money & the number of employees in the business , especially when you approach the banks .These guys want to see the pros & cons of lending you money & the only way they usually do this by looking at some of the issues i have mentioned above .Also find out about business link in your area & do a lot of research about your business .I hope this little would help.

Legally you will need to be registered first and this seems a costly process! Having said that the back pain industry is a real winner as is most alternative therapies. I would start by doing some market research in your local area on interest. There is nothing quite like a database of ready customers to convince a bank!
Also consider the Shell Live wire awards as they may help.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hi Louise
I see from your web address that you are a UK business.
Get to know your local Business Link and Chamber of Commerce, they are a mine of information and lots of stuff from them is 'free'.
Most Business Links offer an information service through their interactive websites, so send them an email just like the one you posted here. Also, look out for networking opportunities in your local area, there are a number of new ones popping up especially for us girls. Take a look at www.womeninruralenterprise.co.uk (depending on where you live)and www.wcw.eu.com. These are both useful sites for women starting up in business. You might also like to register with www.ivillage.com
Best of luck, let me know how you get on please.
