I import surfboards from the US and have a customer in Sweden wanting to purchase one.
Would I pay both UK VAT and duty upon entering the UK and then Swedish VAT/duty on top of that???
Would it be cheaper tax wise for me to arrange for it to be sent direct from the US (shippng costs aside)??
Any tips gratefully received!
Jonny

Sweden are in the EU which means there is no import duty on goods arriving from the UK assuming duty is paid here.
If you are VAT registered (presumably your customers are not as there are different rules for vat regd ones) there is effectively no VAT paid on import as it is reclaimed, but you would need to charge VAT on the sale.
If you aren’t VAT registered you will pay it on the import, but not need to add it to the sale.
Customs duties will need to be paid in all circumstances, but only on the initial import into the UK. See HMCE website for these, there was a trade spat a while back that resulting in some escalating tariffs. I don’t know if any of our regular importers can would know if they are due/have been lifted yet following recently talks.

Hey
Me and a mate is mabye going to start a business in Oslo, selling surfbords
Because there is not a big market for it, but not many surfboards to buy
I wonder, what is the smartest thing to do? Import surfboards from USA, England or other countries? Norway is not in EU, therefore have we thought about importing surfboards to goteborg in Sweden, only 1 and half hour from Oslo. I wonder, do you have some stores or surfboards factories, we can import from, to recommend? In the beginning, I think we start to buy 10 boards or something.....
Greetings from a surfer
