Abbey National gets a lot of good press through this forum. HSBC have been good to me so far. Avoid Barclays like the plague. I've heard a few bad things about Natwest. Don't know about the others.
I would set up meetings with all of them and compare them all together. It's got a lot to do with the bank manager / business manager at each site and how much he believes in you.
IMHO

I too recommend Abbey National - I'm with them myself - its all online or over the phone, so you won't get to see your manager in person, but there's no banking charges - which is a major bonus! (not until you are earning vast sums of money anyway).
When previously in business I was with HSBC - they were very nice and helpful and came with one year free banking at the time, but the year soon goes and those charges really did start to mount up!

HSBC has been helpful to me, except getting money out of them is like pulling hens teeth unless you willing to give your life away. But I guess no bank likes to lend money to startups in reaily, even though they say they do... (liars!).
I think it really does depend on the area you are in and how each bank manager is. I have heard horror stories form mates about their HSBC branch, but I have never had a problem. I am still in year one an dhence the free banking, but I am sure the charges will rack up soon enough next year.
Online banking through HSBC is very good and new services are activated fast and efficiently.

royal bank of scotland are very friendly, give them a call. They charge an annual inscription fee on top of their commission for credit card payment system by internet, and paypal do not charge to join.

jkelland I know what you mean about getting cash out of HSBC being difficult.
I have a 3pm meeting tomorrow to try to get 20K out of them.
Wish me luck.
Clem.
