Hi All,
I am a software developer, and for a while now I've been trying to perfect some software I've been working on to allow people to enlarger digital photos. The new release is a definate goer. It's received 5 star awards from reviewers, and wheneve it's added to new sites where people go to check out new software, I get a flurry of downloads, and a flurry of sales (mainly to Mac users).
Now we come to the "But"... I can see that people are willing to buy the software, once they find out about it, but whenever the listing drops off the first page, we go through a lean spell. I am an engineer, and have no idea about marketing, so can anyone give me some pointers as to how I can get my software better known (cheaply - I'm bootstrapping).
The website is: http://www.beardedfrog.com
Thanks for all advice.
Phil

For cheap as chips coverage you could think where do people who might want to use this kind of software go and spend time on the web ?
Forums and lost of em. Photoshop forums, digital photography forums and the likes, and as you know a search for photoshop or graphic design brings up reams of results, so add forum to the search and there you go. There is one chunk of your market. Do not simply SPAM the poor souls with your ads, but sign up make some noise and let folks know about this. (heck even act as a third party who has just used it and thought wow). This is free but time consuming and the affects are more residual, in time it will pay off.
So what about less time consuming but requires a little cash. We know your site can sell so at least thats covered. If I was you, I would do the above in my occasional spare hour of an evening but for instant results I can measure, I would simply chuck £50 on PPC for related keywords on google adwords or overture, test my results and take it from there.
If £50 quid on related keywords makes you only £60 quid in sales, you are up.
For me; if every time I spend £25 I make £30 and that happens everytime then how much would I spend. As much as I can raise..........
Best of luck
Kane

Promote your service to the media with a press release.
A well-crafted, targeted release also offers the slow burn, fixing your company or product name in a journalist's mind for the future, making sure it's filed and ready for a time when (as often happens) a journalist or editor is commissioned in to produce something to which you're relevant. When you wonder how a competitor managed to get mentioned in an article, you'll often find a press release - and not always a recent one - at the back of it.
The ideal outcome, of course, is column inches that drive visitors or customers to you (though these can never be guaranteed), and without a release, how are journalists going to know your news? Or even (in the worst case) know you exist?

At Selectabase Ltd (the parent company of startupsplus.co.uk) we use a varity of marketing mediums, well to be precise all of them.
However for marketing to work you need to try a mix of mediums.
We use a combination of internet, advertising, trade releases, direct mail and telesales, networking, referel programmes, incentive programmes and many other sources.
All of which if you are clever can be done with very low cost, but make sure your marketing is targetted to the audience you are trying to reach.
However, I will point this out, I have been in sales and marketing for over 12 years, and in all cases, the one that produces the best results - its quite simple - PICK UP THE PHONE - Its good to talk.
Anyone need more advice, ill be happy to help.

Hi Phil,
Looks like a good business idea to me. You need to find out about search engine optimisation, because it sounds as though you have no problem selling this product its getting people to find out about it thats the problem.
