hi
doing my budgeting right now. I know that it might be hard to compare as anyone is in a different industry, but
is there anybody out there using google adwords? I just wonder how efficient this is.
How many of the clicks you receive turn into a purchase or at leasts makes contact / inquires s.th. (guess it is called conversion rate).
And how much do you spend (in advertising, pr etc.) per client?

I've been using Adwords for a few months now. We are a training business, so we look for a high conversion of a small number of prospects. As a single course is a large capital investment, we don't expect a massive conversion rate.
With a daily budget of around £10, we aim to hit 10 clicks a day. We've been getting enquiries at the rate of about 1 a week (so around 1%), although this has dipped for some reason in last few weeks.
As I say, not spectacular conversion but it is more than enough to boost sales for us and definitely gives a good return on investment.

In terms of working out how much you're going to have to pay for each visitor, it all depends upon what topic, and what keywords you choose.
Fortunately, google have a really neat tool which you can use (even during the sign up process, before handing over any payment info) where you choose your maximum CPC (cost per click), and it then estimates how many clicks per day you're likely to see, and what the total cost per day is likely to be too. This can really help keep you informed.
Obviously, once the visitors reach your site, it all depends upon how well setup your site is for turning visitors into customers, so it is impossible to factor that one in without knowledge of your site. But one thing is for sure - you need visitors before your site can work for you
