I wonder if anybody could recommend a low cost software packaging company?
I have been using a self made access database for my business for the last 2 years, but we have outgrown this and need a lot more additional things on there that Access cant do - we have seen at least 3 companies and they have what we need but price wise are far too high and maybe larger businesses can pay this but at this moment in time I cant justify the cost of this whilst the business is still small with only 5 users.
I would appreciate any help at all or at least recommendations of software packagers who could help???

Hi
We feature the Ability Office software suite on our website, which has a database package.
We've heard very good reports about Ability, it's CHEAP but not nasty, and they offer a free 10-day trial so you'll be able to test it out to see if it will do what you need it to do before you buy.
You can find Abilty Office Professional on : www.nowletsgetstarted.co.uk/businessessentials.asp

Take a look at www.inrax.com
This is a very low cost system which is capable of growing with your business. If you trade online in any way then it is perfect. I use it to run 3 website shops.

The problem you have is common to many smaller businesses and is not easily solved. First of all you must be aware that creating bespoke software is not cheap. A half decent Web/Database programmer will be able to command a salary of £35k+ most small businesses cannot absorb this sort of overhead and still compete on price. If your company is doing what many small companies are doing then you may find a vendor whose shrink wrapped product will do 80%+ of what you need. You need to think long and hard about what the business could sensibly afford to spend on a new system and then see if you can find one. I would be ready to accept that there may not be a solution out there and that you should carry on with your Access database until the company is bigger and can afford to get some bespoke software built.
