Hi,
I understand that financial services are exempt from VAT
If, in my invoices, I simply pass on the credit card surcharges I am forced to pay at cost do I have to charge (collect) VAT for those surcharges?
I am not charged VAT for the credit card surcharges imposed by Barclays Merchant Services, and I have seen a couple of companies separating their CC charges and not imposing VAT on that element.
Obviously this helps keep us competitive, as CC & Debit card charges can be quite substantial, so it would be better not to charge/pay VAT on that element of doing business - and as the credit card companies cannot charge us VAT I do not understand what is going on.
Assistance on this, together with a pointer towards the relevant legislation, would be helpful.
Thanks
