Hi I will soon be moving to a new office in the Midlands and would appreciate any advice regarding the broadband set up. The current scenario is as follows - 4 PC's connected to a router which then connects to ONE BT Business Broadband account. All PC's therefore share one 512kb connection and we pay £29.99 + vat per month. I had hoped I could just unplug the existing PC's and router and then plug back into the new phone line in the Midlands and away we go. When I phoned BT they inform me it is not that simple and we may lose our Internet connection for up to 3 weeks during transfer - that is not acceptable so they tell me to apply for a new Broadband account and then cancel the old one once we have moved. My questions are - 1) Is BT correct about transferring the existing Broadband account or did I just speak to someone that did not have the correct technical knowledge? 2) Who do you use for your Business Broadband and would you recommend them? How much do they cost and are there usage limits? Thanks very much for any input Regards

God - don't you love BT - no wonder so many people are coming back to them every day - although what they don't tell you is that twice the number are leaving on that same day... (-;

Steve, Like you I would always double check anything BT says, and wherever possible I would use an alternative (though recommended) solution. I work with a number of IT Support Companies throughout the UK, the majority of whom work on a daily basis with Broadband companies. So they will know the answers to your questions, and be able to offer impartial advice. Please find 5 names/companies below, and feel free to come back to me if you require more. They are not all Midland based firms, but this should not prevent them from providing the information you require. Hi there, I can recomend Pipex.co.uk. I have not had one bit of trouble, they are fully geared up for wireless with no problems, and you do not get any pop ups or large amounts of software to put on your Pc, they are just a provider, very cheap. The service has not gone down once in 9 months. I am really chuffed with them, really fast conection after BT make ready for ADSL.
