The last few months have seen speculation surrounding a possible recession constantly rearing its ugly head in the business pages. Stock market slumps, the slowing down of the housing market, and lets not forget the dreaded credit crunch.
It was reassuring then to see that 73% of the entrepreneurs on the Startups 100 list believed a recession would not have a negative impact on the growth of their business. Many believed they’d still only scratched the surface of their potential customer base, therefore growth would continue.
Others believed their companies to be recession proof and several entrepreneurs even thought the recession would increase their rate of growth. Naomi Aptowitzer, founder of Zipee Bikes and number 79 on our list, said people would be looking for cheaper alternatives in a recession.
She said: “Rising energy and fuel prices could encourage people to use our electric bikes.”
That sentiment was shared by most of the entrepreneurs offering a budget or cheaper alternative to traditional services.
