RE: New sportswear business

Hi John,
I'm approaching my line of questioning from a Designer/Creative Directors point of view. I'm not specialised in every business area or industry like some clients think you are but i do know about branding, design, target markets and who you are aiming your products/services towards. So with this said, i would like to ask you the following questions:
Who is your sportwear aimed at? Trends/Fashion. Practical/Esential. Summer/Winter. etc... etc...
Do you intend to market your goods in the uk only? or at some point international?
What makes your brand different from the others? e.g. professional, childrens, cheap. etc... etc...
These are only some rough questions and i'm sure you can answers these very easily but from a brand point of view it needs to stand out from many others and speak out to your customers in a different voice to all the rest. Plus it needs to work over many formats and platforms eg. Advertising, Packaging, POS, Swing Tags, Brand names, Logos etc... etc...
And this all comes down to the quality of the item, where you want to sell it and who you want to buy it.
I'm not sure if i have been of any help but if you want to talk more then just send an email.
All the best and Good luck with the idea/project.
mark
Have a Slap Up Christmas

Hello Mark.
Thanks for your reply to my start-up thread. I haven't thought that deeply about the products I would want to produce but I know I want a distinctive logo and brand name to compete against the market leaders like Nike, adidas, and reebok.
I was looking to aim at them but would like to compete with lacoste but don't have pots full of money because our items would have to be in posh shops in the cities and shopping centers like bluewater.
So I want good quality sexy and desirable summer items for men but mainly women. Branded and distributed into the big sport shops, and to eventually go global, only after success in the UK.
How do you think we could differ from the companies I have mentioned and is there space for another branded sportswear company? I already know it will very difficult to break into the market and that is why I am only researching it for now. I am also struggling to find a catchy and distinctive name for m idea and where to go for it, any ideas?
