Hello everyone, hope the bank holiday was nice and relaxing...
Any idea how to get listed at DMOZ.org? We've submitted the site twice in the past 3 months and we're still not listed. I know it can take time but I have a feeling they've rejected the site for some reason.
Also, can anybody recommend a good free web stats package? Our host offers one but it's not great, just wondered if anyone has a better one.
Thanks,
Keir

I use awstats, most webhosts will have this built in to your package (if you use cpanel).
DMOZ is a pain, it's a bit of a sumbit then forget it job.. I've been waiting over 6 months and going by other's responses that's not uncommon at all. Instead try submitting your site to smaller directories.

DMOZ can take a while but it is worth it.
It took me around 6 months for a DMOZ listing, so patience is a virtue. If you are mainly after a DMOZ listing to help with Search Engine Optimisation then there are certainly other ways to help e.g.:
- Add a H1 tag to the coding for your main keywords
- Add ALT tags to increase keyword visibility (and for comliancy)
These are just some inital options from quick glances to your website.
For a good free web stat counter try http://www.statcounter.com
Hope this helps,
Dean

Thanks for all the advice. I've submitted to as many small ones as I think is out there but it seems DMOZ is the one to get.
Regarding the SEO - Do we need to add an H1 tag in the keywords in the META tag or in the keywords in the text of the page.. and do we need one for each keyword or just at the start of the list?
Where do the ALT tags go exactly? Excuse the ignorance!
And all this just to get to the top of a search engine!
Heard good things about statcounter so will get involved, thanks again.
Cheers,
Keir

Keir,
The H1 tag should go within the body section of the coding and as near the top as possible.
ALT tags are alternative text tags that you may have seen if you place your cursor over an image on the net and a small text window appears giving more details. The ALT tag helps with compliancy due to the different ways and different abilities of people accessing the Net.

Much depends on which category to as it will take much longer for any site to be reviewed if it has been submitted to a large category with no resident editor or even a category with an editor that isn't particularly active.
If you have submitted your site to the Hertfordshire category you will see that it has no editor so you may stand a better chance of getting your site reviewed by submitting it to United Kingdom: Health: Fitness which at least has an editor

Keir,
If you have questions about your dmoz entry you can use:
www.resource-zone.com/
This is a forum that allows you to ask questions about the status of your listing. Some of the guys I spoke to said it took up top 2 years to get listed because of lack of editors!
You may also want to go to specific webmaster forums for advice, I have used www.webmaster-talk.com and found them very useful.
