Prize Competition Rules
1. This competition is promoted by Sage (UK) Limited, whose registered office is at North Park, Newcastle upon Tyne NE13 9AA (“Sage”). By submitting your entry you indicate your acceptance of these rules.
2. No purchase is necessary to enter this competition, which is open to any individual older than 18, and any trading entity, each of which must be resident in the UK. Only start-up businesses may enter this competition, where a ‘start-up business’ is one which is within 6 months of starting to trade, or which has been trading for up to 12 months. In doubtful cases, Sage’s decision about what constitutes a start-up business will be final, and Sage reserves the right not to award a prize to a business which is not a start-up. Employees of Sage and their close relatives, and employees of any organisation professionally involved in this competition, are not eligible to enter it. A business summary must only be submitted once; Sage’s decision about what constitutes the same business summary will be final.
3. Entries must be made on the online form at www.sagestartup.co.uk and will only be accepted if every section is completed. Sage will not award a prize for entries not made on the online form, which are incomplete, which are received by Sage after the closing date of this competition, which are made fraudulently or from an entrant which does not comply with these rules.
4. If you enter this competition:
a) Sage will use your personal details to administer and run this competition (including making announcements about prize winners) and as described in these rules. To do this we may retain the personal details you submit in our computer records for a reasonable, necessary time and we may need to share your details with our agents or contractors who help us to run our marketing and promotional activities.
b) Sage will use the contents of your entry only to judge and award prizes, and in confidence. We will not own the contents of your entry, which we will destroy after the competition closes.
If you do not consent to such use of your information in this way, please do not enter this promotion.
5. From the beginning of April 2006 until the end of August 2006, one prize of £2000 will be awarded per month, in respect of the entries received in that month. The last date for entries is 31 August 2006.
6. The 5 winning entries will be the best entry in the month in which they were received, as judged by our panel of judges, one of which will be independent from Sage. The judges’ decision will be final. If in one month Sage receives an exceptional entry which is not awarded a prize, and in a subsequent month the judges’ opinion is that there is no better entry, Sage may award the prize for the subsequent month to the exceptional entry for the previous month.
7. The winners will each receive one prize of £2,000, paid by cheque. . No alternative prize is available. Prizes must be taken as stated and are not transferable. The winner will be notified either by phone, post or email within 14 days of the prize being drawn, depending on the details submitted. The prize cheque will be sent by Sage as soon as reasonably possible after the prize winner has replied to the notification of their win, once they have confirmed their identity to the satisfaction of Sage and the postal address to which the prize should be sent. Winners must account to the appropriate tax authority for any tax payable on a prize. Prizes unclaimed after one month will be deemed to have been forfeited, when Sage reserves the right to award the prize to the next best entry in the relevant month or a subsequent one.
8. By accepting a prize, the winner agrees to co-operate with Sage for publicity purposes free of charge, to include, as a minimum, the publication of their names and photographs, together with a summary of the winning entry, as agreed between Sage and the winner.
9. Judges’ and winners’ names will be available from Sage on written request, sent (together with a stamped addressed envelope) to the registered office address above, for the attention of the ‘Sage Start-Up Campaign Manager’.
10. Sage reserves the right to cancel this competition at any time if relevant circumstances arise outside Sage’s control. Sage will not be liable to you if you suffer any loss or damage by entering this promotion, provided that nothing in these rules shall exclude or limit Sage’s liability in respect of personal injury or death caused by Sage, or for its own fraud. Subject to the previous sentence, Sage will not be responsible for any entries which are not received due to postal or other delivery problems, nor for any failure of a winner to receive the notice that they have won. These rules are governed by the laws of England and Wales and by entering this competition you submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
