The future of enterprise and entrepreneurship is to be the focus of the annual Enterprise Week this year.

The event will run from November 12-18 and includes days devoted to recognising women’s and social enterprise.

The week is co-ordinated by the Make Your Mark Campaign – a national project aimed at creating an enterprise culture in the UK by inspiring people in their teens and twenties to implement their business ideas.

The campaign was founded by several business organisations including the British Chamber of Commerce. It is supported by the Department of Trade and Industry and is also endorsed by Gordon Brown.

Nearly half a million people took part in 3,184 events nationwide in last year’s Enterprise Week, which was a 44% increase on the previous year. Organisers say this year’s week will be even bigger.

“Already over a third of young people feel they have the personal qualities needed to develop a business idea,” said Stephen Alambritis, chair of the Make Your Mark campaign.

“During Enterprise Week we want to inspire even more people in their teens and twenties to have ideas and make them happen, whether they are starting their own business or social venture or by making their mark at work.

“It’s up to all of us – and especially teachers, parents and employers – to support them along the way.”
