Hello,
I can't afford to pay for a stand at an exhibition later on this month (it's probably too late to apply for one anyway) but the attendees will be the kind of people I want to target.
I'd really appreciate people's views on the following - Is handing out promotional leaflets at exhibitions: banned, merely frowned upon or simply ignored?
Thanks

I would think it's not allowed, but you could check with the organisers to see what alternative advertising they may have.
I also wanted to have a stand in an event but when I totalled up the costs it worked out at over £1000 +VAT including all the literature etc so it had to wait until another time.
I wonder if there's a chance of a group of businesses getting together and sharing a larger stand which would cost each business less overall?

Exhibitions are a great place to network and meet people. Try and register as a delegate and get to meet everybody that way. You may find you are closer to the action than an exhibitor.

One of our clients went as a free place delegate to one of these and took business cards and flyers, he said he was discrete, he spoke to people around the stands and networked well. He says he picked up business from it. I doubt this unconventional approach works every time but worth a look to see the sort of stands that attract the most visitors before you commit to expense.

Lee, perhaps people who question our motives in contributing to this site will think twice when they see how late we work! Someone once said when you work for yourself you only have to work half a day, what you do for the other 12 hours is up to you.

He he! Respect to the late shift. All I can say in my defence is that I've painted a front door already today [

To the topic: I think people are right in advising discretion. Although a lot of it depends on what sort of industry you're in and how much front you have.
Some companies have a policy of using guerilla tactics. I remember some years ago Nike was annoyed that a rival company was going to be sponsoring the Great North Run, which is the biggest sporting event on their doorstep in the North East. So they chatted up the owner of the pub situated right by the finish line, who happened to have a nice big car park. On the day it was heaving with people - and there was the Nike van with music blaring, giving away free caps and stickers. All for the price of a free pair of shoes for the pub owner - while the official 'sponsor' had paid thousands.
I'm not necessarily condoning this of course!
cheers
