RE: Working from home tips?

I spent the first 2 years I was in business working from home, and even now we have an office I like to skip the commute a couple of times a week. I think there are a few key things to keep in mind with working from home.
1. Make sure you have a designated space to work and keep all your work related paperwork. Ideally somewhere you can shut the door on at the end of the day. This will help you stay organised and avoid distractions.
2. Choose your working hours and stick to them. I tend to find I get fairly easily distracted at home, so I'm forever just popping downstairs to make a cup of tea, or check the post, or have a quick tidy up of the house, etc. All these little breaks do add up and can really eat into your working day.
3. Make sure you do finish work at the end of the day rather than keep just popping back to your PC to check your emails, etc. I think it's really important for your sanity to have a good split between your work and your home life.
4. Make sure you get out at least once a day - otherwise you'll end up going stir crazy!

I've worked from home for 7 years and over 5 years ago I started a club at Ecademy for people who work from home.
Why don't you join up - there are over 800 members now! We just chinwag when we want to, talk about business things, and occasionally gas on about how great it is working from home, lol

Best Wishes

You might have no issues with separating being "at work" and "at home" but if you do try a physical trigger to put yourself into work mode - my old business partner used to find that putting her work shoes on did the trick...
