Hello to you all
I am currently working as an electrical maintenance engineer at a pharmaceutical factory, looking to go down a different path.
Looking for some more information about doing Electrical installation contracting, rewires etc.
The plan would be to start off working for a company and then develop to me having my own team of electricians.
Employing people is something I already do in another business.
Rewires, three phase, control circuits all types of wire is not a problem for me.
What I do not know about is contacts, how the contracting game works, what to look for – rates of pay, types of work, areas I should be looking at.
Look forward to your replies.
Thank you
Stephen

Stephen
Welcome to the forum
Electrical installtion is not my forte but I would suggest you look at the kinds of companies you would be competing against. See how they do things, how much they charge and so on. Gather as much research as possible. You could spot ways in which you could be different (for the better).
I would also advise you to speak to your local Business Link / Chamber of Commerce etc
They will be able to help out with test marketing, business planning and support.
Keep in touch, let us know how you get on with it all!
Sean

I have been involved in Computer Cabling over the past number of years & have worked alongside numerous Electrical guys & firms.
There are a number of qualifications you will have to get & accreditations (just like my own game), in order to be permitted to bid for larger jobs.
Sean's advice is sound - take a look at your competitors, also seek business advice. I would also suggest looking at Tenders websites (we have our own in Ireland/N Ireland, so you should have something similar) and see what they require for electrical contractors - if you can match their regulations, then you can probably work anywhere.
I'd be interested to hear how you get on, good luck.
