I am about to open an internet cafe with a capacity of 20 PCs. I am having a hard time deciding which company to use as my service provider. Plus do I need multiple broadband connection for the PCs or can I do it with just one connection.
If you have any useful websites or information it will be very helpful

Hi Maxx,
Try www.touchlocal.com and ask a couple of internet cafes - I would, just in different areas in the UK.
Say you are in london, and you call liverpool cafe, ask them the information, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to refer a provider to you and talk about networking issues or successes they've had already.
I know that one of my favourite topics of discussion is my business, and its the same for 100,000's of other business owners, these guys have been there and done it, don't be afraid to ask them the questions.

If you are looking for un-interrupted service then yes a back-up is essential. You will also have to bear in mind that if you are using a ADSL service there is no fair usage policy involved because if there is then they might decide to cap your speed and then your business is at stake.

Im not sure where you are located in the country but i work with a couple of ISP's and i can therefore establish what sort of speeds you can expect depending on your location and distance from your telephone exchange.
Backup lines are essential if you are offering an internet connection service but you need to think logically about having two or more connections, there is no point using the same supplier becuase they will connect you to the same card at the telephone exchange, you need different suppliers.
Contact me if you need to www.w2lsupport.com and i will see if i can help you further.

I disagree with you w2lan. The telephone cirucuits are managed by BT wholesale and no matter which ADSL service provider you go to they will use the same BT Wholesale to lease their circuit.
Two different telephone numbers do not connect to the same DSLAM. they connect to separate ones. The only time you may find yourself into trouble is if both telephones are coming from the same pole. In that case there is a possibility that they may both fail.
Broadband (ADSL) speed do not vary from ISP to ISP for your information w2lan. As stated before, all ADSL service providers use BT Wholesale for providing broadband circuit. If BT wholesale cannot give you more than 2Mbps then no matter who you go to you won't get any advantage over the speed, unless you can subscribe to cable. However, as far as I know, Virgin can only offer you up to 2Mbps on business lines. Not sure if they will allow you to use their 20Mbps broadband for business purposes.
For most accurate information on what you can get for your telephone line go to http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php. Type in your telephone number, postcode and there you go. This information is impartial as well.
You might find sales people exaggerating their service, so don't trust what they tell you. Broadband connection is never guranateed untill the order is complete.
I know this for a fact because I have worked for BT for more than 3 years. If you have any problem email then you can always email me or you can call me for free advise.

agree with some of your points not others, i worked on the rollout for easynet/skybroadband LLU unbundling, easynet can sometimes better a BT or eclipse or another sp's provision sometimes they cant. Also i have two circuits into my comms room one eclipse one easynet, easynet has been very un-reliable and when it is i auto failover to eclipse, so why dont i just use eclipse well thats becuase eclipse can give me 1mb sdsl but easynet give me 2mb sdsl 1:1 and they are cheaper. Yep BT wholesale provide the infrastructure but the sp uses its own kit in the exchange and they do all the backcrawl, BT dont go out until Easynet, eclipse or other sp's engineer has proved fault is BT's.
Also BT offer ADSL Max gives you the best possible speed the line you are on can provide up to 8mb it is also more proficient with its data than say a fixed adsl 2mb.
