hi
just looking for advice for my brother !
can anyone please tell me; what are the advantages and disadvantages of setting up a free of tie Restaurant/bar business from scratch ?
how do we convert an empty shop to a bar ?
and how much he should be paying for the cellar equipment, cooling plant, tables and chairs, Bar , Kitchen, Toilets, Floors and etc ????and what sort of costs he should expect ???
And, can he go to the supply company ( for example ; carsberg-tetley ) and do a tied deal ( doesnt mean premium prices, maybe just their product ranges ) and in return , carsberg-tetley or any other supply company would fit out the cellar, pipework to bar etc. for him free ?????? is that possible ???
my brother has limited amount of unborrwed - saved money but he donesnt know how much more he will need to borrow to set up his own restaurant bar ?
thanks

Ok free of tie or not?
Free of tie gives you better bargaining powers with getting your supplies, you will get a greater discount. So no, dont go and approach Carlsberg Tetley and tie yourself in with them. Your advantage is then lost!! But if you want cellar equipment speak to them and see if you can do a deal, as to buy this would cost you mega bucks! Also if it belongs to them, you do not have maintenance costs which also are high.
First thing you need to do though is to get planning permission for change of use from a shop to licensed premises. Then sit and apply for a licence, which means fire regulations adhered to, magistrates visiting you to see your proposals. Once this is out of the way then you start thinking about approaching brewieres for supplies!
Good luck!

If you get hold of a trade magasine either on line or from a newsagents, listed in the back is ads for these items, or you can contact a valuer direct and see if you can get any advise from them!
Sorry best I can do, been a while since I have had to think about the licensed trade!
